It Could Be You

It is November 12 and Christmas has already arrived at Starbucks.
I am sipping hot chocolate, sitting behind my laptop. I quit coffee almost four years ago.
Everyone is typing, reading, cell phoning; the iPods are taking charge. Strutting their red paper cups around, spreading the holiday cheer. I wonder if anybody in this place is actually here for coffee: probably not on a Sunday night. Maybe big guy in the green rain jacket is, aimlessly standing by the fruit-flavored jelly candy boxes in the shape of happy pumpkin houses, the last traces of Halloween. I don’t know what he is here for.
