In fact, I had not seen N. or talked to him for two or three months. If it had not been for our common friends, I would not have a clue that he was moving to London or why he was going there, and neither does the email I received from him explain any of these things. So my darling Dora,
Since I was not able to talk to you before leaving the US, you are the lucky recipient of my first e-mail from London (and isn't it really a great honor). I arrived here after a 6 hour flight on Virgin Atlantic yesterday morning. The flight itself was awesome, I had an aisle seat (always key) right next to the emergency exit so I had extra legroom and VA has millions and millions of movies and tv programs to watch so I saw X-Men (ok) and the Sentinel (wtf?) as well as the 30 Days episode where they sent a W. Virginia Christian to live with a Deerborn, MI Muslim family for 30 days (priceless). I did have some baggage problems before getting on the plane leading me to leave 1 suitcase full of CDs, DVDs and books (all the really light stuff) along with winter clothing removed from the other 2 suitcases to my brother - who was a star attraction carrying all of that stuff out of the airport - so I find myself with no music and no books (well 3 books but 1 is Anna Karenina and it doesn't count).
I arrived in London yesterday morning and immediately purchased a pack of cigarettes as I had forgotten the pack I purchased for airport consumption at my apartment (I still have 2 left from yesterdays pack) and proceeded to take a black cab (which I later found out from the hotel staff was a bad idea, ty hotel staff for letting me know after I got there) which cost 65 pounds (many many dollars, you're an economist you figure it out). I immediately ventured forth to discover the balances on my british bank accounts and have now purchased a cellular telephone (can only be called a 'mobile' or people just look at you like you're from another planet and utter the word - phrase? - 'huh?' from time to time) the number of which is +44 **** (you should send me your number as all that stuff was in the 'mobile' left in the US). The afternoon was supposed to be spent taking care of military service, job/apartment search alas for jetlag as I passed out around 3pm.
Woke up at 4 am, made friends with the Jamaican-Nigerian night manager and now I'm trying to figure out all the shit that was supposed to be handled yesterday. For now, know that I am well, I have eaten sushi already and I haven't done much else.
Love, kisses and ass grabs,
N
