Laundry and Other Updates
I live in an old house, so I believe that I am entitled to an exciting basement. In movies (or books, if you are into that), people find exciting objects in their ancient basements. Old ancestors speak through these objects; murder mysteries are set in motion or solved; a forgotten romance is sometimes brought back to life. I usually find insects in my basement. They do not intrigue me much. Once I noticed a blood-colored substance splashed in the corner: clearly not blood. So I was a little excited this time when I was doing laundry and saw a stack of picture frames rested on top of the beams up by the ceiling. I
approached with cynicism; naturally, I was disappointed to only discover a few cheap old pictures with scratched frames, things that were probably hanging in the kitchen of the previous tenants for a while, until the family got fed up with their triviality and conveniently hid the pictures from themselves. But then I started liking them. I instantly got attached to their saneness and predictability. I looked at those pictures and felt like I don’t need to look at them anymore because I have already seen all there is to them. It is also possible that I was eager to hang them in the kitchen in order to give it that unmistakable feel of a cheap hotel. I was nurturing the adventurous part of me that wishes that for some romantic reason I was living in a cheap hotel.

As for other updates, I discovered The New Pornographers, and the baby birds that lived above the stoop flew away. In a way, I miss them. They were silly.
